Inflation On Holiday, Not Consumers

Inflation went on holiday in June. The sharp drop in energy prices during the month drove both the consumer price index (CPI) headline and core, and the producer (wholesale) price index (PPI) headline and core, lower than expected on both a month-over-month and a year-over-year basis. It’s a lot of numbers, so the table provides a summary, with the red type showing how much lower inflation was than expected.
