There’s no one magic combination of skills to fit the job at Allianz Trade – our business relies on individual strengths.

After her studies, Cynthia Cordon y Roland, now Head of Department Claims and Legal Guarantee at Allianz Trade in Germany, was looking for a role to fit her unique combination of finance knowledge and language skills. And she found it at Allianz Trade.

As a university student I thought carefully about how my skills would translate to the kind of work environment I was looking for. I knew that I was headed toward a dynamic career with an international company, so I studied Spanish and Economics.

My knowledge of finance deepened over the course of a few banking and export experiences until I found Allianz Trade, and it became clear that I had the perfect mix of skills to thrive here.

In 2003, I joined the company as a country manager for various business units in Central and Southeastern Europe. It was when I became a product manager in the Center of Competence Bonding in 2010 that I got my first taste of surety. That was really the start of the group-wide business line, so it was a very interesting time.

I then left surety for almost 10 years. In that time, I became the head of various projects and departments across the company, which gave me invaluable insight. When I returned to surety to head up the claims and legal department, I had gained invaluable perspective to empower me to contextualize what we do in surety with the core business of trade credit insurance.

The reason I’m still at Allianz Trade after all these years is because of how close I get to be to the customer. Most of the work I touch concerns things that everyone else only gets to read about in the news. Having hands-on experience with economic developments is not something I would get in many other roles. There’s never a dull moment.

Surety is a great place to be if you’re looking for a wide range of opportunities. Be ready to grow alongside your teammates – because our environment is collaborative, and we work hard.

Your specific blend of skills, whatever they may be, will apply to something we do. So, be brave and bring your ideas.

My greatest pride is my daughter. I want her to have every possible opportunity, so I think about her when I reflect on my experience in surety. A decade ago, I was hard-pressed to find even one other woman when I walked into a meeting. Now, I’m surrounded by other professional, capable women at all levels. The environment has changed significantly and there are still more opportunities to broaden the pool of perspectives and increase diversity.

Based on the progress I’ve seen, I know my daughter will live in a future where her unique strengths will be recognized and valued. I’m excited to think about what's coming next in surety at Allianz Trade and just how much more we will grow in the next few years.
